jojoba (pronounced ho-ho-ba) oil makes up about 50% of the seed of the jojoba plant. this plant is native to areas with drier climates like Arizona, southern California, and the northern areas of Mexico. the oil itself is made up of wax esters, which are fatty acids found in inorganic and organic compounds. unrefined jojoba oil is a golden, clear color with a slightly fatty odor, it smells a little like a cooking oil at room temperature. once refined, it loses its color and smell.

chemically, jojoba oil is closest to human sebum, an oily and slightly waxy matter naturally secreted by both humans and animals to help lubricate the hair and skin. sebum is made and distributed throughout the scalp and face area by the sebaceous glands.

jojoba oil is an exceptional moisturizer for the skin and a great conditioner for the hair, at plush naturals, we include it in our soaps, body souffle and sugar scrubs to help replenish and moisturize the skin. jojoba oil is becoming more popular in mainstream, mass manufactured skin care because of its chemical similarities to human sebum. our creation of skin care involves using ingredients that are as close to their most natural state as possible, which means, we use jojoba oil that still has the golden color and fatty smell. when applied directly to the skin, it leaves a natural sheen that is not oily and a slight , but nothing over powering or undesirable.
